Scuderia Toro Rosso was created on the basis of an Italian team Minardi. In 2005 Red Bull repurchased this team from Paul Stoddart and at the same time became the owner of the second F1 team. The first STR drivers were Vitantonio Luzzi and Scott Speed. The third was a Swiss - Neel Jani. In the first Formula 1 season Torro Rosso team used Cosworth engines. Although in 2006 there was a regulation which imposed the usage of V8 drive units, STR team, making use of F1 regulations, was able to use the rev limited and air restricted 3-litre V10 engines.
In the following year Ferrari became the Faenza team's contracted supplier and the team was equipped with 2,4 litre V8 units. At the beginning of the season the team lineup remained unchanged. After European GP the American was replaced with Sebastian Vettel, who had previously performed the role of a test driver in BMW-Sauber.
In season 2008 STR was represented by Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais - the four-times winner of American Champ Car series. After Australian GP and Bourdais' 7th place, in the following rounds Toro Rosso drivers didn't satisfied everyone's expectations. Only the introduction of the new STR03 car before Monaco GP had good effects in the form of Vettel's 5th place. The STR's culminating point of the season was Italian GP, where Vettel first fought out PP and then won the race.
In the beginning of season 2009 the team was represented by Sebastien Buemi and Bourdais. The second one was replaced by a Spaniard, Jaime Alguersuari before the Hungarian GP. In comparison to Bourdais, Jaime admittedly didn't scored any points till the end of the season, but despite of that fact managed to remain the STR driver in 2010. The lineup fills up Buemi, who achieved two 7th places last season (Australian and Brazilian GP).
For the first time in team's history, STR will put up a self-built car, STR05, in season 2010.

2006 The first season in F1. Chassis: STR01 with Cosworth V10 engine. Drivers: Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed. STR scored 1 point and was 9th in World Constructors' Championship.
2007 Chassis: STR2 with Ferrari 057 engine. Drivers: Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed. Sebastian Vettel replaced the latter in the last two GP. STR scored 8 points and was 7th in World Constructors' Championship.
2008 Chassis: STR3 with Ferrari 057 engine. Drivers: Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Vettel. STR scored 39 points and was 6th in World Constructors' Championship. In Drivers Claasification Vettel was 8th and Bourdais was 17th.
2009 Chassis: STR04 with Ferrari engine. Drivers: Bourdais/Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastian Buemi. STR scored 10 points and was 10th in World Constructors' Championship. Buemi was 16th in Drivers Classification, while Bourdais was 19th and Alguersuari 24th.
